The German Society of Westman officially came to life on April 12th 2005.
In November of 2003, Janice & Wolfgang Monin approached
Manfred & Penny Wicht to become involved with The City of Brandon’s Lieutenant
Governor’s 2004 Winter Festival . They willingly took on the challenge
with the help of Thomas Loll and Sandi McTavish.
Manfred had a vision, which with the help of a handful of volunteers developed
in to one of the most popular Venues of the Festival.
From that event a desire evolved to come together with other people in the
community to create a German Society and promote and enjoy the German Culture.
Elections for the present Executive were held at the South
End
Community Centre.
The Executive set an agenda for the coming year and
planned, first and foremost to establish the Constitution for
the German
Society of Westman. After a several meetings, the
constitution was drafted
and approved by the Executive in August 2005.A copy of the
constitution is
available upon request to every member of the Society who is
in good
standing.
The
second election process was held March 10, 2006. This time it was an
election
to a 3 (three) year term of office was held by
secret ballot. The
term ran from April 01, 2006 and
terminated on March 31, 2009.
The third election process was
held April 28th 2009.The Executive for the April 01, 2009
to March 31, 2012 term is as follows:

President: Manfred Wicht
1st Vice: Wolfgang Monin
2nd Vice: Larry de Vries

Secretary: Penny Wicht
A Social Events Committee consists of
Bev,Thomas S., Tim and Bill . The
committee will co-ordinate functions such as pot
lucks,picnics, barbeques,
etc for the Club and to help
increase memberships.
The objectives of the German Society of Westman are to
preserve,
promote and encourage, interest in German language and
culture. Our
ambition, within the limits of the club, is to promote a
better understanding
of German speaking areas and people through social and
educational
activities. Our future goal is to establish a German
School, again,
to teach the German language and culture to students of all
ages.
We also aspire to having our own dance group and band in the
future.
It is stressed that it is not necessary for members to be or speak German, but
only have the desire to promote the German Culture.
At present, our Club has two major events each year,
The City of Brandon’s Lieutenant Governor’s Winter Festival
and Sommerfest.
These events make a huge contribution to the community and
serves as
a platform for awareness. You can read and view more
on these two events
under their own pages.
