June 16th & 17th was the setting for the 2nd
annual Sommerfest which was held under the “Big Tent” at the Southend Community
Centre. Sommerfest, Oktoberfest in June, featured Traditional German
entertainment with the Little OOM PAH Band from Brandon and the Regina Edelweiss
Dancers. We also had the band “Vivid” from Brandon, which entertained from 11pm
till closing. We rocked the tent!
Our chefs served Bratwurst,
Currywurst and Smoked Loin topped with Sauerkraut and /or German sweet
mustard, served on Brotchen (German Buns). There was also oodles of soft, large
pretzels which was a meal in itself!
We had an abundance (2000 liters) of
German Beer, Der Kleiner Feigling Schnapps (everyones favorite) ,Fig
Schnapps and Champaign as well as non alcoholic beverages. We
featured a Sektbar in the Sekt tent (Champagne Tent) this year. There was our
own special "Shooterbar"which was featured through out the evening. Something
for everyone!
There was lots of fun , some Schunkeln and
loads of Gemütlichkeit ! This was an event you will be talking about for weeks
if not years ! Stay tuned for next years event!
