2009

The 6th Annual Lieutenant Governor's Winter Festival was held February 5,6 & 7, 2009. The German Pavilion was held at the UFCW Training Centre ,530 Richmond Ave. East. The Celebration of Culture as reported by the Wheat City Journey.

The Regina Edelweiss Dance Group entertained the crowds with their authentic German dancing. The Junior Dancers joined us Saturday afternoon.

Our local oom-pah band, The Alpine Express headed by Jeff Harland, filled the air with the sounds of Germany.

Marc Bellon  joined us this year to let us experience his talent.

Marc is an experienced alphorn player from Souris. The alphorn is a wind instrument which is carved or bored in wood and over wound with birch bark. Some instruments are straight, reaching 12 feet (4 meters) in length.

Delicious traditional German food dishes were  prepared by our chefs, Larry de Vries, Matt Otten and Joanne Canada-Somers.

Thank You , to our tireless volunteers, who without the hard work and dedication, would not be able to host such a fun filled ,authentic three days. A dinner of appreciation was held at a later date .
